Abstract

Periodic electric field poling is an important technology for the development of tailored nonlinear materials for quasi-phasematched (QPM) frequency conversion. 0.5 mm thick samples of LiNbO3, and 1 mm thick hydrothermally grown KTiOPO4 (KTP) can be poled this way. KTP is of particular interest for blue and UV light generation as it is easier to pole and has a higher damage resistance. However, high ionic conductivity has so far impeded periodic poling of flux grown KTP, which otherwise would be desired as the flux growth technique is fast and gives large, high quality crystals.
