Abstract

There is much interest in monolithically integrated devices to provide compact, robust optical systems. To date Two Dimensional Integrated Optical (2DIO) devices have been designed with mirror structures to manipulate beams in the slab [1,2,3,4]. 2DIO structures provide extremely flexible design advantages over waveguide based devices due to ultra low crosstalk and loss between crossing optical paths. However, the truncation effects of mirror etches and beam divergence have not been analysed in detail. Effects of beam truncation are examined in order to provide methods for designing beam splitters which are required in 2DIO crosspoint switch designs.
