Abstract
The effect of cascaded second-order nonlinearity in two-pass intracavity second harmonic generation has recently been applied for passive mode-locking of lasers both in pulsed /1/ and cw regimes /2/. To achieve stable operation of an intensity dependent mirror reflection by using the cascaded process and reliable formation or shortening of light pulses it is desirable sufficiently high intensity of radiation in the laser cavity. The rise of intensity can be attained with the use of active mode-locking that makes the requirements to nonlinear mirror parameters easy feasible.
