Abstract
By using an appropriate scheme of dispersion in a fiber, the so-called dispersion-managed pulses have been shown to exist in the non-linear regime of propagation [1]. The use of alternatively positive and negative dispersion fibers leads to the propagation of a breathing pulse, which seems to present a lot of advantages, like a higher energy, reduced modulational instability, smaller jitter caused by collisions between signals, reduced Gordon-Haus effect….
