Abstract

Summary: DWDM networks with a channel spacing of 0.8 nm or less impose stringent requirements on laser sources of accurate λ and output power control, high λ stability and low noise. However, DFB fiber lasers [1] suffer from low output power for a limited laser length. Using an EDFA to boost the output power increases the noise figure at least a 3-dB. Fiber DBR laser has a high noise due to the relaxation oscillation. In this paper, an interactive fiber laser (IFL) is analyzed and experimentally demonstrated. It is a combination of fiber DFB laser and a fiber DBR laser to have a higher output power and low noise.
