SBS gain measurement in xenon near critical point

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

SBS parameters in xenon in the density range of 0.3 g/cm3 < ρ < 1.82 g/cm3 and at temperature 292.5 ± 0.1K were examined experimentally. It was shown that in the density range from 0.3 g/cm3 up to 0.6 g/cm3 SBS gain increases achieving the value of g ≈ 140 cm/GW. In the density range from 1 g/cm3 up to 1.5 g/cm3 SBS gain decreases down to the value g ≈ 43 cm/GW due to anomalous decrease of phonons lifetime (τph ≈ 10 ns at the density 1.5 g/cm3). When the density increases above the value 1.5 g/cm3 SBS gain increases again achieving the maximal value g ≈ 160 cm/GW at ρ = 1.82 g/cm3.
