Abstract

The ‘bell profile’ provided by fast axial flow CO2 lasers is generally not optimum for surface treatment processes such as cladding, annealing and scabbling. Consequently, there is considerable potential for enhancing laser-based processing by using optical techniques to modify the natural beam to create process adapted beam shapes on the work-piece.
