Abstract

New resonator configuration developments to obtain almost complete extraction of the stored energy from a large-volume active medium, to produce a diffraction-limited laser beam continues to be of interest Unstable resonators are used to generate a nearly diffraction-limited output beam from a large-diameter active medium. However, an unstable resonator may be used for a gain medium that has a reasonably high round-trip gain.
