Abstract

Experimental studies on laser action from highly scattering gain media are of current topics in the laser field; optically pumped bulk solution 1 and liquid microdroplets 2-7 of high-gain dye containing strongly scattering nanoparticles. The mechanism for lasing action is considered owing to enhanced stimulated emission through multiple light scattering in a strongly scattering and diffusive gain-medium that can provide dispersive feedback to exceed the gain over loss in a small spatial region.
