Abstract

Trivalent praseodymium ion (Pr3+) activated crystals and glasses are interesting materials for visible and infra-red (IR) solid-state lasers. Because of the energy level structure, and suitable lifetimes of the excited states, Pr3+ systems are also attractive as short wavelength upconversion laser systems. Recently, simultaneous blue, green and orange wavelength lasing in Pr3+ doped ZBLAN fiber has been reported as a result of IR-laser-diode pumping.
