Abstract

Rare-earth pentaphosphates belong to the class of pure or stoichiometric laser media, exhibiting a concentration of active ions of the order of 1022cm-3. From 1974 H.G. Danielmeyer to 1995 F. Kaczmarek, they were all using the large container to grow rare-earth pentaphosphate crystals. Unfortunately, the crystals were always obtained in small size with plate-like shapes because of the strong evaporation caused by strong convection in the large growth system.
