Photoacoustic Depth Profiling of Layered Samples

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Our experimental setup of time-resolved photoacoustic spectroscopy is presented in Fig. 1. This device was used to analyse absorption profiles of thin films Aquatic samples with varying absorption coefficients confined between thin glass plates, strong absorbers immersed in water and sandwiches of thin plastic films were build up to investigate the resolution of this measurement technique with well defined layered samples According to these samples it was possible to resolve layers of at least 100 pm thickness, with minimal absorption coefficients of about 1 - 2 cm−1
