Abstract
Using the transfer matrix technique method [1,2] the response of a 2D photonic crystal with a planar cavity has been investigated. The crystal was made from silicon dielectric bars εr=11.7 which are 340×390µm, in the x- and z- dimensions respectively with a periodic spacing of 1275µm in the x-direction and 790µm in the y-direction. The transmission response for the crystal, with a planar cavity defect introduced centrally, is examined theoretically and experimentally. Experimental analysis was carried out between 67-110GHz, the limitation range of the W-band analyser and found to be in excellent agreement with the predicted response.
