Abstract

To improve the integration densities of optical circuits two dimensional (2D) photonic crystals (PC) seem to be a leading choice. They do not involve the high complexity of 3D nanoproccssing and arc compatibile with planar optical circuits With PCs the optical confinement in the plane of the circuit enables sharp waveguide bends, therefore a drastic reduction in the overall size of the circuit is expected
