Abstract

All-solid state and compact; tunable UV laser sources based on Ce-doped crystals have already proved their advantages, in terms of efficiency and beam quality, over alternatives solutions such as non-linear frequency-upconversion of other solid state lasers (Ti :Sa and OPOs). As a matter of fact, they have already found several applications in various areas such as monitoring of biological and chemical species in the atmosphere, combustion diagnostics and short pulse generation and amplification.
