Abstract

We have previously shown that it is possible to implement optical planar components operating at the wavelength λ0= 1.55 μm, by use of periodic dielectric waveguides of which the substrates are formed with the liquid crystal, and that the non-twisted nematic phase is well adapted for frequency tuning and the smectic A (SmA*) phase is more suitable for external frequency modulation [1].
