Single Ion Cavity-QED

Abstract

We investigate the interaction of a single calcium ion with the field of an optical cavity. By localizing the ion on a sub-wavelength scale, we could map the intensity distribution in the cavity. Future applications include deterministic single photon generation and one-ion lasing.
