Solid State Raman Laser for Conversion of Sub Nanosecond Laser Pulses

Abstract

The efficient Raman conversion in barium nitrate crystals has been already well demonstrated in the first works using tens of picosecond and nanosecond excitation pulses in the single pass configuration [1,2]. The additional employment of a resonator allows the high conversion level to be maintained and the Stokes beam quality to be simultaneously improved. This approach can be easily realized for the single laser pulses of tens nanoseconds duration when the resonator length is relatively small compared to the laser pulse length providing a sufficient number of passes in the resonator. But for the short length sub-nanosecond pulses the resonator is normally used only with synchronous pumping by a pulse train.
