Plasma-Induced Emission of Tunable Few-Cycle Mid-IR Light in Gas-Filled Hollow-Core PCF: Theoretical Study

Kagomé-style hollow-core photonic crystal fibres (kagomé-PCFs) provide a unique environment for the study of nonlinear optical interactions in gaseous media [1]. In particular, the celebrated phenomenon of in-fibre dispersive wave (DW) emission has been exploited to obtain efficient, tunable sources in the UV spectral region [2]. In this approach, a zero-dispersion wavelength (ZDW) located between the central pump and the emitted DW is required so as to allow for the phase-matching of both signals [3]. Selection of the DW frequency in kagomé-PCF is performed by tuning the ZDW of the fibre from the UV to the NIR via simple adjustment of the filling gas pressure. However, this DW emission mechanism does not work in the mid-IR range, because of the absence of a ZDW on the long-wavelength side of a NIR pump.
