Abstract
One of the main and important concern in underwater optical wireless communication system (UOWC) is the presence of solar noise and may affect the link performances severely. Recently, we have theoretically demonstrated the impact of orientation-based solar noise on the UOWC system with the system receiver (Rx) facing vertically upward (VU), horizontally leftward (HL), and vertically downward (VD) orientations [1-3]. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate the effect of solar noise interference in the UOWC system for all three orientations. The experimental setup shown, in Fig. 1(a), comprises a white LED as a Tx, emitting 500 mW power with 115-lumen intensity, and a Thorlabs FDS 100 Si-PIN photodiode (PD) as the Rx. The Tx and Rx are mounted on a black colored metal ring to maintain a fixed link span of 20 cm. A train of 4 VP-P DC, 6 kHz pulse wave with 50% delay generated signal modulated the transmitter intensity following NRZ-OOK modulation format. The transmission followed the line-of-sight (LOS) configuration.
