Abstract

We present compression of 22-mJ, 90-fs mid-infrared pulses centered at 3.9 μm down to a duration 33 fs via spectral broadening in a noble-gas-filled capillary and subsequent dispersion compensation in bulk. Large 1-mm core diameter of 3-meter long capillary assures over 60% throughput and allows avoiding of unwanted ionization.
