Ultra-Low Threshold Single Mode Surface-Grating DFB Lasers for Chip-Scale Atomic Clocks

Abstract

We present an ultra-low threshold-current single-mode surface-grating DFB laser for chip-scale atomic-clocks. The index-coupled surface-grating yields the coupling-coefficient ~300cm−1. The fabricated laser stable single-mode operation with threshold-current and SMSR of 3mA and 40dB, respectively.
