Abstract

Until recently CO2 laser radar systems have been designed and developed specifically for each new application. In many cases this was required to incorporate the latest technology or to meet specific size or performance constraints. With the advent of waveguide lasers, high speed microprocessors, and advanced optical and electronic components, it is now possible to design standardized, modular CO2 laser radars. This approach provides a highly flexible and cost effective method for meeting the requirements of many ground based and airborne atmospheric sensing applications.
