Abstract

From mid-May to mid-June, 1986, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), Huntsville, AL and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Division of Atmospheric Research, Aspendale, Victoria, Australia conducted a cooperative airborne atmospheric measurement program to determine aerosol size, concentration, and chemical composition, and to determine the atmospheric backscatter coefficient (β(π)) at CO₂ laser wavelengths (10.6 μm).
