Abstract

The measurement of the reflectance of hard targets used to calibrate lidar have been complicated by the introduction of polarization effects by Kavaya.1 As a result, some investigators no longer employ hard targets. Haner and Menzies2 presented an excellent paper on the comparison method to calibrate hard targets and the flooded sulfur target appeared to be a good secondary standard for the scattered radiation was nearly depolarized and exhibited reduced retroreflection.
