Abstract
Over the years, the role of optical performance analysis has grown from a simple application of the Rayleigh Resolution Criterion to a sophisticated analysis of the relationship between surface deviations and image quality. During the next 30 years in space astrophysics, the application and continued development of this surface/image quality relationship will continue and become more extensive. Application to segmented optics is but one example of such an extension.
