Abstract

The paper discusses the production of the major graphite/epoxy structural elements of the Space Telescope’s optical telescope assembly. The Boeing Aerospace Company performed this work under contract to the Optical Technology Division of the Perkin-Elmer Corporation and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Unique features of the analysis, design, fabrication, assembly, test, and performance of the graphite/epoxy structure are presented.
