Abstract
Various hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbons [CHCl3, CHBr3, CHI3] were subjected to "hydrothermal" reactions in the presence of diamond seeds in the pressure regime 1-5 kbar and at temperatures near 800°C. In many samples the powder X-ray diffraction patterns show substantial increases of the diamond peak. The grown crystals are too small to be observed in the scanning electron microscope. The transmission electron microscope data gives support to the possibility that the grown diamonds are too small to be detected by SEM.
