Abstract

Coherent optical transmission systems suffer from distortions induced by nonlinear components. As a countermeasure, Volterra equalizers and deep neural networks have attracted growing attention. In this paper, optimal objectives to maximize achievable rates as well as performance and complexity aspects are discussed.
