Low-Optical-Return Multimode Interference Photodiodes with Small Capacitance for Polarization-Diverse Optical Receivers

Abstract

We designed and characterized a waveguide photodiode with a multimode interferometer. The photodiode with two light input ports showed high sensitivity, small junction capacitance, and low optical coupling between the two light input ports, which enables high-speed and polarization-diverse optical receivers with low optical returns.
