Abstract

At the ASTRID, storage ring laser cooling on 24Mg+ has been performed. 24Mg+ has a closed transition operating directly from the ground state at a wavelength of 280 nm. At the Institute of Physics and Astronomy in Aarhus, we have built two tunable CW UV laser systems, which can produce up to 90 mW. Each system consists of a ring dye laser, which is frequently doubled in an external resonator containing a KDP-crystal.
