Abstract

Applications of erbium-doped optical fibers seem to expand all the time. Erbium-doped crystals and glasses are frequently used to generate and amplify radiation in the 1.53-1.57 μm range. Infrared-to-visible upconversion in erbium-doped crystals and glasses is also very promising and has been used to generate visible light from all solid-state lasers.
