Abstract

Microlasers1 display interesting proper ties such as a very low threshold and a fast response time. We believe that most of these properties are a consequence of cavity QED effects that arise because the cavity has dimensions comparable to the wavelength of the light involved. In order to study these cavity QED effects, we have adopted a very simple model; however, it captures some of the essential features of semiconductor microcavities.
