Effect of small signal phase on laser response near period-doubling

Abstract

During the last few years, much attention has focused on studying the behaviour of physical systems near period-doubling bifurcations (PDB). This interest connects with the phenomenon of "squeezed" light, a general dynamical phenomenon in quantum optics. Recent experiments with a CO2 laser1 showed that the phase dependence of the small signal amplification leads to period-doubling squeezing.
