Abstract

Single-mode (two-frequency) gas lasers with weakly anisotropic cavities where the active medium anisotropy is comparable in value to the empty cavity anisotropy are known to exhibit a large variety of nonstationary polarization phenomena which results from spontaneous pulsations of the output caused by the instability of the steady-states of the field polarization parameters [1]. In the present work on the basis of the model developed in the framework of matrix formalism in [1] the theoretical study is made of polarization dynamics in a single-mode gas laser operating on j1 =1→j2 = 2 transition with spontaneous pulsations of the output in the case of linear phase anisotropy of the empty cavity and with the active medium subjected to the action of a sinusoidal longitudinal magnetic field. An analogous problem in the case of two stable eigenstates has been studied experimentally in [2].
