Abstract
Gas lasers with weak anisotropic cavities are known to exhibit some new features in polarization behaviour of which the most interesting is the polarization instability observed without any time-dependent external influence in a series of experiments1,2 The aim of the present work is to propose a mathematical model of polarization instability, to show its validity by confirming the known experimental results, and to find new nonlinear polarization effects.
