Abstract
We investigate relaxation oscillations (RO) in an optically injected single-mode diode laser. RO’s play an important role in diode lasers. On the one hand they severely limit the dynamical stability of these devices in practical applications, but on the other hand they lie at the basis of an extremely rich and complicated dynamical behaviour. Upon increasing the injection amplitude starting from a stable, frequency-locked situation (master and slave frequencies are equal), the the increase of the injection amplitude leads in first instance to the excitation of the RO, followed by a period doubling bifurcation series to chaos [1]. Here a systematic investigation is reported of the stability properties of the simple, i.e. period-one. RO’s.
