Abstract

Laser spectroscopy with a 13.3 MeV ion beam at the TSR storage ring is used for an accurate measurement of the transverse Doppler effect. This experiment is a sensitive test of the special theory of relativity and theγSRT=(1β2)12 factor(β=vc). The Doppler shifted frequencies νa, νp of fast moving clocks are compared with reference clocks at rest in the laboratory. The frequencies ν1 ν2 at rest for the moving clocks are known from independent measurements [1,2]. Using νa = ν1 γ(1 - β) and νp = ν2 γ(1 +β), any deviation of the time dilation factor introduced as γ˜SRT(1+δαβ2+) is detected in the expression [3]
