Abstract

The spectral profile of the reflection coefficient at a dielectric/ atomic vapour interface exhibits a sub-Doppler resonance in the vicinity of the atomic line. This so-called selective reflection phenomenon allows us to investigate the behaviour of those atoms which are close to the dielectric surface The associated lineshape is sensitive to the van der Waals attraction between the atomic dipole and the dielectric material [1,2].
