Abstract
Interest in controlling semiconductor laser non-linear dynamics has been stimulated ,in particular, by the possibilities for achieving secure communication systems which exploit the properties of chaotic dynamical systems. Another practical context where chaos control techniques may have an important role to play is in engineering immunity to coherence collapse caused by unintentional optical feedback which may arise in the hybrid integration and packaging of commercial laser diodes In recent work the general concept of the control of nonlinear dynamics in an external cavity laser diode with optimized impulsive delayed feedback was demonstrated [1].
