Molecular Dynamics in the Condensed Phase using Six-Wave Mixing: a Quantum Electrodynamical Study

Abstract

In this paper we present a quantum electrodynamical theory of multi-wave mixing experiments in the condensed phase. Although the techniques used are general, this paper will concentrate on one particular six-wave mixing process. Namely, we consider the generation of a transient grating within the sample using two intense pump beams of frequency ω and 2ω — the temporal evolution of the grating being monitored by recording the second-harmonic generated by a weak probe beam at ω.
