Spatial Solitons in Semiconductor Cavities

Abstract

Several basic models for nonlinear optical systems can present solitonic structures in the transverse field profile, which appear as isolated peaks of intensity and are commonly designated as spatial solitons (SS) [1]. Experimental observations have been reported recently [2]. These 2-dimensional structures attract much attention for applications as self--organizing pixels in reconfigurable arrays. Of course semiconductor (s.c.) media appear to be best suited for attempting such a realization, considering sizes and timescales.
