Moving cavity solitons in vectorial second harmonic generation

Abstract

We study the evolution of localized structures or cavity solitons (CSs) in intracavity vectorial second harmonic generation. We assume a quadratically nonlinear medium sandwiched between two mirrors, where two orthogonally polarized fundamental harmonic (FH) waves A1/2 generate a second harmonic (SH) one B via type II phase matching. In the high finesse limit the normalized evolution equations read as where T and X, Y are the scaled time and transverse coordinates, respectively. ΔA and ΔB describe the detuning of the FH and SH fields from the respective resonances. For symmetric FH input E1=E2 the stationary plane wave solutions show a symmetry breaking bifurcation above a certain power threshold (Fig. 1).
