Control of Disorder in Broad Area Nonlinear Optical Devices

Abstract

Many broad area nonlinear optical devices, including solid state and semiconductor lasers and optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) produce an output which shows irregular pulsations in time and poor beam quality. Such spatio-temporal complexity, as it is termed, can be a real problem for the use of such devices in applications. We introduce a novel technique for their stabilisation, in space and time.
