Cavity-Induced Population Inversion in a Driven Two-Level Atom

Abstract

Over the past decade, considerable interest has been devoted to systems in which atoms interact with a modified vacuum, such as that presented by a cavity, where the coupling of the atoms to the modified electromagnetic vacuum is frequency-dependent. For an excited atom located inside such a cavity, the cavity mode is the only one available to the atom for emission.
