Abstract

Nonlinear dynamics of injection semiconductor lasers (SL) subjected to external optical feedback has attracted much attention in recent years because being strongly dependent on the feedback amount a rich variety of interesting dynamical phenomena such as linewidth narrowing, frequency selection, coherent collapse, mode hops, bifurcation, and chaos are observed in these systems. In general, laser dynamics depends first of all on the phase shift acquired in the external cavity. This dependence on the external phase shift can be eliminated if the feedback is realized via four-wave mixing in the external cavity.
