Abstract

A distributed index rod lens with nearly parabolic refractive index distribution in its radial direction has been widely applied to imaging systems or micro-optical circuits [1],[2]. In this paper we propose a new class of distributed index lens; a planar micro-lens. A lot of lens samples or their array can be monolithically fabricated in one substrate by diffusing dopants through a mask. Planar micro-lenses may be applied to optical imaging systems, micro-optical circuits, focusers and so on.
