Abstract

Taking the effect of the J-mixing into account in the consideration of luminescense of rare-earth ions on low symmetry positions in solids, we derive the following line strength formula for electric-diople transition from term ψiJi to term ψfJf (modified Judd’s three parameter band intensity formula1) where ψJ is the same thing as τ2S+1LJ, the term label; |a(ψJ,ψ′J′)|2/(2J′+1) is defined as the j-mixing coefficient between term ψJ and term ψ′J′.
