Abstract

Chaotic behavior of nonlinear systems is a well known phenomenon, which recently was observed in several laser systems. This paper now deals with chaotic emission of solid state lasers running in single longitudinal but multitransversal mode operation. It is demonstrated that, irregular spiking, so far explained by experimental imperfections is a type of chaotic emission. It can be evaluated theoretically and is confirmed experimentally.
