Abstract

Many different acousto-optic and electro-optic waveguide devices using titanium-diffused lithium niobate have been described (1,2,3). There have also been several studies of the actual titanium diffusion process and it has become evident that this is a complex process involving a number of distinct intermediate stages. Because of this complexity, precise characterisation of the waveguide profile has proved difficult, particularly in stripe waveguide devices.
